Chalker's artistic career was cut short by his conscription into the British army at the outbreak of World War II. After the fall of Singapore he was taken prisoner by the Japanese and was able to preserve over 100 of his sketches of his and others' experiences. This book is a collection of that work, which has a strong emphasis on the POWs efforts to deal with disease and injury with limited medical supplies. Chalker worked with the distinguished Australian surgeon, Edward Dunlop. Fine Hardback in a Fine Dust Jacket. 135 pages with an index and many illustrations.
