Based on survivors' accounts, this book tells the story of British and Australian prisoners of war, who were removed from constructing the Burma-Thai railway to be shipped to Japan. In the course of their sea journey to Japan their boats were sunk by US submarines. Two thousand Allied prisoners had to fight the Japanese guards and the perilous conditions in the sea to survive.
