The Straits Chinese House:
Domestic Life and Traditions
Peter Lee & Jennifer Chen
From the seventeenth century onwards Chinese immigrants have made Nanyang, Southeast Asia, their home. Before the nineteenth century most of the new settlers married into existing communities creating a distinct culture, known to day as the Peranakan or Straits Chinese tradition. In this book we get at least a visual representation of what that culture produced with a wide range of historic photographs with explanatory text. Peter Lee is the Curator of the Peranakan Museum in Singapore. 123 pages. Please see the scan of the contents page for further details.
