Schärer lived among the Ngaju people between 1932 and 1939 as a missionary and again as an anthropologist briefly before his sudden death in 1947. In the course of his work he collected a significant amount of material on their traditional religion. The work is important as it records their supernatural beliefs before most of the Ngaju people were converted to Christianity. Good Hardback. First English Language Edition. 229 pages with one colour and more than twenty black and white plates and a fold out map.
