This book sets out to remember Chung Keng Kwee, one of the leaders of the
Chinese community in Malaya in the 19th century, through two magnificent
buildings he arranged to be built in Penang, the Shen Zhi Shu, an ancestral hall
and the Hai Ji Zhan, a family mansion. The author, one of the city's leading
conservation architects, in the first part of the book gives brief Biography of
Chung, in the second part, explains how the buildings were constructed and
finally uses old maps and architectural drawings to try and fathom Chung's
motive for designing the buildings in this particular manner. The book is
bilingual in Chinese and English. 120 pages.
