This book examines the history and development of cheongsam in the social context of Singapore. The cheongsam was introduced from Shanghai, China in the 1920s. It is a one-piece Chinese ladies' dress which is very feminine and elegant in style. Although this garment was not favoured in China after the revolution, it still managed to survive in Singapore. Photos of the evolution of cheongsam in Singapore are presented in this book. 160 pages with glossary, endnotes, bibliography, further reading list and index.
