This collection of transcriptions of the original manuscript documents was originally assembled by Cowan to provide students at the University of Malaya with a solid core of original sources for their work. They were later published by the MBRAS for the benefit of a wider readership. The documents show that the reasons why Penang's original supremacy gave way to Singapore are quite complex - a result of a mix of commercial, political and personal influences. Very Good Paperback.
