Bisayan Filipino and Malayan Humoral Pathologies: Folk Medicine and Ethnohistory in Southeast Asia
---
Dann V Hart
Until the 16th century mainstream Western Medicine had been primarily based on the Hippocratic concept of the four humours. This theory was brought to Spain by the Arabs and in turn popularised throughout the Spanish empire including the Philippines. In this study Dart seeks to determine the extent to which humoral pathologies practiced in folk medicine in modern day Philippines stem from the Spanish import and how it has been adapted to indigenous folk medicine.
