Women Workers, Migration and Family in Sarawak
Hew Cheng Sim
This book is based on research carried out amongst Bidayuh women who have migrated from the countryside to the city to find work. Hew, a member of the academic staff of the Universiti Sarawak Malaysia, looks at how the women cope with changes generally and in particular how family relationships are transformed, the experiences of single women and the effects of an urban setting on courtship, marriage and employment after marriage. Also included are the stories of four women in their own words. 176 pages with a bibliography and an index.
