Arnold Wright (ed)

Wright was in the habit of doing PR for the British colonies. He tackled Malaya after his successful volumes on Western Australia, Natal and Ceylon. His role was mainly as editor while he left it to a collection of British contributors with country experience to contribute the main chapters of the book. The result is an unrivalled review of the country's affairs at the time it was first published in 1908. The articles are illustrated with extensive black and white plates. 959 pages

Published by: Lloyd's Greater Britain Publishing Company, London 1908.

Condition: The original cover has very little damage other than rubbing along the edges, minor bumping at the corners and a small nick at the top and base of the spine. The gilt titling is still strong, especially on the front cover. The gilt edging to the text block is still present and sparkling in places, although it has faded slightly elsewhere. The inside covers and opposite page in each case have their original strong marbled paper covering and the inside front cover has a small neat bookseller's label at one edge. The end papers have very mild tanning and a 1910 gift inscription on a front end paper. There is also a previous owner's name written  at a corner of the title page. The map page, opposite the title page, has a small loss of about 1 square cm in one corner, which does not affect the map itself. About a dozen or less pages at the beginning have a small nick at the page edge. Otherwise the pages have lost their original brightness but are not tanned. The binding is still very strong. Quite a remarkable copy
