Towards the Completed Landscape: Rainforests and Rural Development in Indonesia and Malaysia
A experienced soil scientist, who was also a founder member of the Malaysian Society of Soil Science, charts the story of the 'destruction' or 'development' of the environment in Sabah, Sarawak, Java and Bali from the 1970's to the present day. Since his profession is to advise agriculturalists, he attempts to balance the needs of the conservationist and the developer arguing that what is happening in these countries is probably little different to what has happened in Europe, although at a faster pace today. 228 pages with several colour photographs.
