This novel is set in the post World War II era where Bertha, a Portuguese Eurasian, discovers that her boisterous life of flirting and parties is undermined by changes for which few are prepared. She's carried away by love but then discovers that she has a choice to make between betraying her lover or her country. 475 pages.
