Travers, an Irishman, who joined the East India Company at a young age, was chosen by Raffles to be part of his invasion force of Java in 1811. He held relatively senior positions in the administration of both Java and Sumatra. These extracts from his journal cover both his time in Java and Sumatra and his abortive mission from Raffles to Singapore in to replace William Farquhar as Resident. Condition: The cover has a little wear around the edges and some tanning in places. The front end paper and title p[age have heavy tanning. Otherwise the binding is tight and there is mild to medium tanning throughout.
