The Escape from Singapore
---
Richard Gough
A little know fact about the fall of Singapore to the Japanese in 1942, is that plans had been laid weeks before for troops to escape, should the city fall. This book is an account of those preparations and the execution of the plan which not only saved many lives but enabled the British to prepare support for the guerilla movement that had started to operate behind enemy lines. One of the key characters in this operation was Boris Hembry, whose account of his time as an undercover agent in both the war and later in the Malayan 'Emergency' was published later as 'Malayan Spymaster.' This book is based on interviews with some of the principal actors at the time and on classified documents. 246 pages with a bibliography, an index and some black and white photographs.
