This is a republished 1959 thesis that attempts to examine the controversy surrounding the acquisition by the British of Sarawak as a colony in the intermediate aftermath of World War II. At the time the politically informed of Sarawak were divided between those who wanted a continuance of the rule of the Brooke family and thos ewho wanted an escape. The author not only examined the documentary evidence available but also conducted interviews amongst those who lived through the events.
