An interesting and perhaps unique study into the attitudes of girls of Chinese descent in their late teens in Singapore on the verge of the country's independence. The survey was carried out by a school specialising in training girls for social work in the community. Although limited to interviewees from the Princess Estate and Farrer Road Kampong, the results give a worthwhile insight into how youth from traditional backgrounds nevertheless show some signs of wanting a different future. With a Foreword by Maurice Freedman.' author of the seminal work, Chinese Family Life and Marriage in Singapore. 157 pages with a bibliography.
