Freeman's earlier research amongst the Iban had come to the conclusion that they were an egalitarian society. However Jerome Rousseau,an anthropologist at a Canadian university disputed this conclusion. This paper is Freeman's attempt to rebut Rousseau's theory and, in doing so, revisit Freeman's own research amongst this community. With line drawings by Monica Freeman, the author's wife. 69 pages.
