In its time this was a ground breaking work being the first study of how a Malay community in Southern Thailand related to its region and to being Thai citizens. The work sprang from field research carried out by Fraser and his wife in the mid 1950s. 281 pages. The book's chapters include The Place and the People, Historical Background, Maritime Economy, Economy of the Land, Trade and Commerce, Rusembilan as Part of the Thai Nation, Community Organisation, Rusembilan as a Moslem Community, Belief in Spirits, The Life Cycle, Patterns of a Changing Community & Sociocultural Change. There are 2 appendices including one on the language of Rusembilan, a bibliography and an index.
Condition: Good.Hardback This is an ex library book with stickers on the inside front and back covers and stamps on the text block. Otherwise the binding is tight and the text clear with no tanning. A nice copy except for the minor library marks.
