Gilmour was Secretary for Economic Affairs and then Financial Secretary and Acting Colonial Secretary in Singapore from 1946 to 1953. This is his account, as part of the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies' oral history project, in the rebuilding of Singapore's war battered economy, thus laying the foundation for the island's subsequent financial success.
