May 13: Before and After

--

Tunku Abdul Rahman

The ethnic riots of 13th May 1969 was probably the most severe crisis of Tunku Abdul Rahman's premiership and marked the beginning of the final phase of him holding office. Some argued that the riots were sparked by the opposition DAP party, while others claimed it was a ploy by less moderate elements of Rahman's UMNO party to bring in more of a Malay supremacist agenda. In just over a year after these events Rahman was forced to resign his premiership in favour of less moderate forces. This book is Rahman's view of the events that led up to and followed the riots. It was published just four months after the riots took place, so wounds were still pretty fresh. 207 pages. There are about a dozen black and white photographs.
