The banning of a book or, as in this case, the threat of banning can never be bad for sales. As a result one of the most important works on Malaysian post-independence history has been republished. The significance of the book is that through use of British documents, declassified under the 30 year rule, the author has been able to overturn the myth that the riots were spontaneous. Instead the author postulates that they were the result of darker political maneuverings within the governing party. 152 pages.
