A linguistic study, based on research of Malaysian English newspapers, of how the English language has changed, and continues to change, as a result of interacting with groups of speakers who have either Chinese, English or Malay as their mother tongue or are multilingual. However these local influences on the language also have to contend with external pressures of English as a global language. The author concludes with suggestions for further research and appendices on words borrowed from Chinese and Malay and creations using English morphemes. 241 pages with an index and a list of references.
