This is a history of the Shuang Lin Monastery was the earliest Chinese Buddhist monastery on the island and still one of the largest of such communities. A central part of this account is the role played by the monastery in raising funds to build the Burma Road, a lifeline for the Chinese resistance during the Sino-Japanese war.
