Parker wrote this book, originally published in 1909, after thirty years in the irrigation department in Ceylon. The book is divided into three main parts, dealing with 1) the life and customs of the Vedda, Sri Lanka's aboriginal people, 2) the ancient structural and irrigation works and 3) the arts implements and games of the country. Condition: The cover is a bit battered with a few creases and a small tear at the foot of the front. There is the beg Good linning of a split hinge just after the half title page, but it does affect the strength of the binding. The binding is tight, text clear and there is mild tanning throughout.
