Sellato first came across the nomadic forest dwelling Penans when working in Borneo as a geologist. Their way fo life and interactions with their settled neighbours so fascinated him that he trained as an athropologist and returned to spend a year and a half with his new friends. This work, which attempts to reconstruct the Penan past through oral history and relate it to their present lives, was the result. Near Fine Hardback.
