Visit to Malaya 1932

Samuel Wilson

This is a report, together with subsequent recommendations, of a visit by the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies who visited Malaya at the end of 1932 mainly to try and settle the division of powers between the British Government and the rulers of the Federated Malay States of Perak, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Pahang. The states were theoretically ruled by their respective sultans on the advice of a Resident, a British Government official. In fact, the Federal Authority in Kuala Lumpur had gained greater control of all aspects of state administration, other than religion, in the course of time. Both rulers and commercial interests objected to this, so Wilson was commissioned to sort out the problem. 40 pages with a fold out map. For further details, please see the scanned contents page.
