He was a man who had to cope with continual transition from rule by the Brooke dynasty, to the Japanese occupation, the British colonial replacement of the Brookes after World War II through to the Federation of Malaysia. Tun Jugah was known to the biographer, but in order to research this book, he also interviewed more than 150 others who knew  the late chief.
