This book is the account of an observant not very successful English writer about her journey by sea to Egypt, the Arabian peninsula, Ceylon, Malaya and Siam in the company of the Duke of Sutherland who was visiting Siam in the hope of securing a contract to build railways there. Since the party was headed by an English noble they mixed with nobility and royalty wherever they could be found. This book's main Malaysian interest is its funique description of the lifestyle of Sultan Abu Bakar of Johor. 362 pages.
