This is an updated edition of Sutlive's study published in 1978. It appears that the original text has been left in tact, but an epilogue added. The main enquiry pursued by the author is how the individuality of the Iban, essential in their nomadic and warlike life of the past, relates to the way they live in community. Besides being headhunters, they have developed the socially cohesive longhouse, which can house up to 70 families.
