The Emergence of the Modern Malay Administration Elite
Until after World War II, the British ran Malaya through two groupings of Malay states as well as the Straits Settlements, where Chinese influence was stronger. This study concentrates on the inculcation of members of the Malay elite into the civil service for the Federated Malay States. The author demonstrates how recruits were introduced to and assimilated an alien way of administration that was to strongly influence the running of the civil service from independence until today. 230 pages.
