The Chinese in Southeast Asia

Victor Purcell

This is probably the first comprehensive history of the Chinese diaspora in Southeast Asia. Purcell traces their history from before colonial times, when Chinese communities were small, through the colonial period when the area was opened up to Chinese enterprise and labour, then the defensive period during World War II and concluding with the diaspora adjusting to life as citizens in their newly independent homelands in the post colonial period. 623 pages with two maps.

Weight 1.3 kg. Post free within Malaysia but will incur additional postage charges when posted elsewhere.

Published by Oxford University Press, London, 1965. Second edition.

Condition: Good. Hardcover. This is an ex-library book with numbering on the spine, stamps on the text block and labels on the inside front cover and on a front end paper. There are occasional light pencil marks in the introduction. The fold out map has come loose but is in tact and laid in the book. The book has been rebound in red cloth. The binding is tight, the text is clear and there is very mild tanning throughout.
