The Making of an Overseas Chinese Legend
In this first English and most extensive biography of the man dubbed 'the Henry Ford of Malaya', Yong gives us a rounded picture of the man's businees, political and family life. Tan's rags-to-riches story was more unual than most in that not only did he amass great wealth, but he was also a happy philanthropist as well as being a significant political player in Malaya, Southeast Asia and in China. Unusually for a businessman, he turned against the Kuomintang and on his death in 1961 Beijing was accorded a state funeral. 391 pages including some black and white plates, various tables and maps, a glossary, bibliography and index.

Condition: Good+ Paperback. There is heavy spotting on the endpapers, but none elsewhere. There is some pencilled underlining in the first dozen pages and the cover has suffered a little bit of shelf wear. Otherwise the book is in a very good condition
