This is the autobiography of Janet Lim, who was born in China to parents who abandoned her, sold as a domestic servant to a family in Singapore, from which she managed to escape and train as a nurse as the Second World War was approaching. On escaping from Singapore she fell into Japanese hands and remained their prisoner until the end of the war. This is reputed to be the first book written in English by a woman from Singapore. Condition: The spine is sunned and the titling on the spine has faded. The cover is covered with light spots from fading. There is a previous owner's name written on a front end paper and the end papers are tanned. Otherwise the binding is tight, text clear and there is mild tanning throughout.
