Low, one of James Brooke's first administrative officers, established working methods that were later copied by other colonial administrators in British Malaya, where he became the British Resident in Perak later. He gained extensive knowledge of Brooke's fiefdom not only in this role, but as a noted botanist. In pursuit of this interest he made the first document ascent of Mount Kinabalu. This book is his major account of his observations. 416 pages.
