Malays in Singapore: Culture, Economy, and Ideology
This is the first major study of Singapore's Malay community since the city state broke away from Malaysia. Firstly, the author, an anthropologist, is particularly interested in how the social fabric of the family has fared in the rapidly changing city. The second part of the book looks at how the community has fitted into the Chinese majority community and the extent to which the community considers itself integrated or marginalised in the avowedly multiracial country. 206 pages with a glossary, bibliography and index.
