Malay: Handbook of Spoken 'Bazaar' Malay -
by
JN McHugh
This handbook first issued in 1945, ran into several editions as it was one of the most handy and used introductions for non-native Malay speakers to the Malay language. It adopts a no nonsense approach with McHugh's phonetic version of the lanaguage. There is no attmept to introduce the student to the official romanised version of the language. The book is aimed an enabling the large influx of overseas troops involved in re-occupying the country after the Japanese surrender and then in the 'Emergency' to make themselves understood quickly. Good Paperback. Fourth Revised Edition. 152 pages.
