Life in the Forests of the Far East
Spencer St John
First published in 1862, this is a facsimile reprint of St. John's account of his experiences in Borneo forests. while he was a civil servant with James Brooke. In the opinion of Tom Harrisson, who wrote the introduction to this edition, St. John's work is one of the few written by 19th century visitors to Borneo which can compare with Wallace's work. Apart from information on the forest life of the time, the book also has extensive observations on the life of the Sea Dayaks at the time. 400 & 420 pages with 16 colour plates and three fold out maps.
