The first comprehensive survey of the flora of the Malay Peninsula, by Henry Ridley, was published in the 1920s. This is the first volume of an attempt to update that work, concentrating on the orchids of the peninsula. Holttum was Director of the Botanic Gardens, Singapore, and later Professor of Botany at the University of Malaya. Good Hardback in a Good Dust Jacket. Condition : The dust jacket , now protected by a plastic sleeve, is dirty and has some minor nicks along the top edge. There is a crack in the binding at the inside front cover which does not affect the binding of the rest of the book. There is a gift dedication on the inside front cover. Otherwise the binding is tight, the text clear and there is mild tanning of the pages.
