Condition : The cover is worn at the corners, has one or two scratches and a small hole in the spine covering. A front end paper (please see picture) has the name 'MB Lewis,' Senior Lecturer in Malaya at The School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), the noted Malay scholar, and author of, inter alia. of 'A Handbook of Malay Script'. There is also a crossed out SOAS stamp. There is one crack along the hinge in the middle of the book that does not appear to affect the strength of the binding. Pages 419 and 420 have been replaced by a neatly inserted photocopy. The seven pages of the appendices on the Malay Alphabet, Pronunciation, Malay Dialects, Orthography, Etymology, Romanized Malay have been frequently underlined in pencil, presumably by Ms Lewis. The binding is tight and there is mild tanning throughout.
