Like much of Cricton's work, this 600 page novel, a "techno-thriller," the story is based on a mixture of science and speculation. No great friend of environmentalists, the author attempts to convince his readers of his argument that scientific study of the environment is, inter alia, too intertwined with politics through this fast moving story, a very extensive bibliography and extensive footnotes.
