Although Southeast Asia owes much of its current culture and character to the large Chinese migrations that took place from the late 18th century onwards, this collection of articles demonstrates that Chinese trade and migration had permeated the region for centuries before. The 18 articles, published by the Malaysian Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society and its predecessors between 1937 and 1999 include, amongst others, Paul Wheatley's Geographical Notes on Some Commodities Involved in the Sung Maritime Trade and Wang Gungwu's The Nanhai Trade. 654 pages including an index.
