Knox wrote the first book in English about the country that is now Sri Lanka. An Historical Relation of Ceylon was published at a time when the British East India Company was beginning to settle down in India and was widely read by many at the time. This study looks at how several, mainly Sinhala, words used by Knox in his account were incorporated into both English generally and into Sri Lankan English. 389 pages with some line drawings of the period and a list of references.
