Architect of Ipoh and Modern Malaya

-

Ruth Iversen Rollitt

When the author, Iversen's daughter, enquired of the Malaysian National Archives as to whether they had any plans of his buildings, she was told that the staff had never heard of him. This lavish and detailed work, drawing on many of Iversen's own notes and illustrations, more than redresses the apparent national forgetfulness of the man who can quite rightly be claimed to have brought modern architecture to Malaya. In a career from before World War II until shortly after the formation of Malaysia, his work ranged from private and public housing to cinemas and Government buildings, always attempting adapt new architecture to the climate and culture of Malaya. 222 pages with a bibliography, index and many black and white and colour photographs illustrating both his design ideas and his completed works.
