This novel is part of Shelley's fiction quartet based on the life of Singaporean Eurasians. Although Shelley Shelley started writing late in life he speedily picked up literary awards for his work. This novel is set in the World War II era where a Japanese resident of Singapore is, against his better judgment recruited to join Japanese intelligence and then falls in love with a Straits-born Eurasian. As one might expect for a war time novel, the book has its fair share of betrayal and intrigue amidst which this love affair struggles to survive. 271 pages.
